Ubicación desde la Ciudad mas Cercana
El Parque Nacional Sierra Nevada se ubica en la Cordillera de los Andes al noreste del estado Mérida y al Oeste del Estado Barinas.
Como Llegar
Por el este, a través de la carretera Trasandina que viene de la población de Valera y la vía que parte de los llanos de Barinas, las cuales se juntan en el sitio llamado Apartadero. Por el oeste, por la vía Trasandina que sale de San Cristóbal y llega a Mérida, a esta vía llegan los ramales que comunican a Mérida con la carretera Panamericana en la Hoya del Lago de Maracaibo. El ramal Mérida-La Azulita, el ramal La Victoria-El Vigía. Todas estas rutas están pavimentadas y transitables durante todo el año. Por vía aérea hasta el aeropuerto de la ciudad de Mérida y El Vigía.
Buscan que no se repitan hechos como el ocurrido en San Martín de los Andes que le costó la vida a dos niños.
Personal del Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi realizaba esta tarde (15/01) tareas de tala y poda de antiguos pinos y coihues en los alrededores del Lago Gutiérrez. Los trabajos de prevención se llevan adelante luego del trágico incidente del Parque Nacional Lanin, donde dos menores fallecieron al ser aplastados por un árbol que se cayó en medio de intensos vientos.

Descripción del Área:
Vista desde el aire, esta Sierra Nevada es un rosario de perlas blanquísimas que refulge bajo el ardiente sol de los Andes.
En el ramal oriental de los Andes colombianos, se encuentra la Sierra Nevada de Güicán, El Cocuy y Chita, más de veinticinco picos cubiertos de nieves perpetuas, en dos cadenas montañosas de aproximadamente 25 kilómetros de longitud por 4 de ancho.
Buena parte de esta hermosa e imponente Sierra Nevada, que constituye la mayor masa glacial de Colombia, se puede recorrer a pie.
También hacen parte del Parque Nacional Natural (PNN) El Cocuy los páramos alrededor de la Sierra y una gran franja de Bosque Andino y Selva Basal que albergan gran diversidad de especies de fauna y flora.

El Ministerio Público imputó a Ramón Pérez y a José Rodríguez por la comercialización ilegal de 19 aves (tucanes y loros) de la fauna silvestre, las cuales eran vendidas por dichos hombres en el mercado municipal de El Tigre, estado Anzoátegui, el 23 de junio de este año.
En la audiencia de presentación, el fiscal 21° de esa jurisdicción con competencia ambiental, Camilo Alcalá, imputó a ambos hombres por presuntamente incurrir en el delito de caza y destrucción en áreas especiales y ecosistemas naturales, tipificado en el artículo 59 de la Ley Penal del Ambiente.

No se imagine que será un encuentro como los que ofrecen los grandes operadores que cuentan con delfines en cautiverio. Lo que sucede en las costas aragüeñas es más bien al estilo safari de vida silvestre: un grupo de personas se suben a una embarcación y navegan por zonas en las que suelen avistarse delfines. Si ellos así lo deciden, se dejarán ver e interactuarán entre sí para el disfrute de todos.
